The group tracks down Quan Chi, who, alongside his allies Nitara, Havik, Darrius, and Sareena, is powering up a soul stealer. Initially, Havik and Darrius are hesitant to help, but they are pressured by the others to honor their agreement. Ashrah warns the team that even a single soul stealer can take thousands of lives, and if used on Earthrealm, it could result in millions of deaths. Determined to stop Quan Chi, the group prepares to act. Before the battle, Johnny forces Kenshi to stay behind but gives him the Sento sword as a gesture of gratitude for saving his life.
In the ensuing fight, Ashrah defeats Nitara, but Quan Chi uses the soul stealer to extract the souls from the Living Forest and creates a new warrior: Ermac. Ermac proves too powerful for the group, but Ashrah and Syzoth manage to overcome Havik and Darrius before turning their attention to Quan Chi and Ermac. Kenshi, refusing to let his friends face danger alone, charges at Ermac. He’s easily knocked down, but then hears the voices of his ancestors through the Sento, guiding him. With newfound strength from his astral vision, Kenshi strikes Ermac, transferring a bit of Ermac’s telekinetic power into Sento.
Together, Ashrah and Kenshi defeat Ermac, causing the trapped souls within him to spiral out of control. Amid the chaos, Ashrah manages to deactivate the soul stealer, and the freed souls turn on Quan Chi, knocking him unconscious. With Quan Chi neutralized, the group parts ways with Baraka. Johnny offers Syzoth and Ashrah a chance to come to Earthrealm, where he believes Liu Kang will accept them. Ashrah, who’s never had a true home, happily accepts.
Meanwhile, Shang Tsung meets with his mysterious benefactor, Kronika. He informs her that the soul stealers are nearing completion and that the army will be ready to follow her every command. He also shares his plan to steal the Lin Kuei from Liu Kang. Kronika praises his efforts and promises that Shang Tsung will soon reap the rewards of his scheming.
